State & Federal Census

Are you having a hard time trying to find information on your ancestors? Let us help you by searching and copying the census for you.

Getting a copy of the census record means you will have additional information on your family. You will also gather information about your ancestor's neighbors who could possibly be close relations or even family. In addition having a copy of the actual document means the possibility of mistakes from a resarchers transcription is less likely.

State Censuses: State censuses were often taken in the years between federal censuses. This helped the state by evaluating the financial needs and strengths of the communities. Not only were these state censuses helpful to government, they were also helpful to the geneaologist. They help the researcher to fill in the missing gaps between the Federal census years. For instance, the state censuses taken in the years of 1885 and 1895 help to reconstruct some of the missing pieces of the 1890 Federal census.
1790-1860 State Federal Census Record Search. Search includes one year in the index 1790- 1860. You will receive a photocopy of the census record or a data abstract when the census quality is too poor to copy.   Note   Order now for only $25.00

1870, 1880, 1900, and 1920 State Federal Census Record Search. Includes a search of the soundex index of a specific year for the surname requested. You will receive a copy of the soundex index and of the census record. The soundex indexes are required in order to obtain the actual census document.   Note   Order now for only $25.00
Federal Census:
1910 Federal Census Search. Most states are not indexed. This makes it very difficult to locate the family. City & Street Directories

City directories are a wonderful source for placing your ancestors in a certain place at a certain time. They could provide an exact location of where they lived in addition to where they worked. City directories may provide an address for an employer which in turn may help you find an ad for the company for which your ancestor worked.

City directories can also show when a person came into a specific area or even break down a time period when an ancestor may have died. Additionally, they can prove other family relations. Once you locate a family in the city you can use this information to help locate other genealogical documents such as draft records, census, probate records, etc.

A city directory search covers a single surname in a specific area for five (5) years and is $25.00. Order now!. Each additional surname is an extra $15.00 for the same timeframe. Additional years may be added for $15.00 per five year span/per surname.

County Record Search
Let us help you by searching through the Salt Lake Family History Center's book format of the county records of your choice searching for your family's surname. We will copy or (transcribe) the records available up to 15 books and document thoroughly each source. These records are in book format and sometimes are not circulated to other libraries. This is a great service available to the researcher who does not have the time or ability to make it to the Salt Lake Family History Library.

Documents that could be found from this search include cemetery, census, city directory, marriage, and family stories to name just a few. A search through up to 15 books is $75.00. Order now!

Draft Records
This record is excellent to find your male ancestor who may have been eligible for the war. This included all male citizens and alien declarants born between 1873 and 1900. Draft records provide great descriptions of your ancestor including name, age, home address, date and place of birth, occupation, employer, marital status, race, any children, if he was a naturalized citizen and if so in what court. In addition it may also provide great details about the person including color of eyes, skin, hair, if he was bald or had scars, etc. This record can also show if he had dependents or was responsible for their family members such as parents or siblings.

Land & Property
Deeds, grantors, grantees, mortgages. Land records can be used to provide relationships between families especially when land is inherited or sold. Additionally, it places individuals in a specific time and place. They also help the researcher sort out families and put families in a specific area. It should also be noted that there could actually be wills omitted from a deed index or not found in a probate index that may be located in land records.

This search is an index search for one surname in a specific county. It is for a five (5) year time span. The basic five year search is $25.00 Note . Order Now! Additional 5 year increments can be added for $12.50 each. Additional surnames can also be searched during the same years for $12.50.

Probate Records
Wills, letter of administration, guardianship, name changes, probated estates, etc.

Information contained in probate records is considered the most valuable of genealogical material here in the United States. Probate records can be used to identify family connections, care and custody of dependent family, liquidation of debts, transfer of property, titles to heirs, and much more.

These records can give you a glimpse into your ancestors lifestyle by providing information on possible occupation, associates, religious affiliates, place of property, ownership, etc. In addition you could find your ancestor giving assets to hospitals, churches, schools, or even a contribution to help maintain a road used by the family.

The Probate Record search is an index search for one ancestor in a specific county over a 10 year time span for $25.00. Order Now! Additional 10 year time spans can be added for $12.50 each.

Travel Records
If your ancestor was an immigrant or just traveled, there may be a passport available.

Passports vary in the amount of information that they contain. They typically contain name, place of residence, age, personal description of applicant, name and number of persons in the family that is traveling, the date and court of naturalization, possibly the ship, date, and port of arrival. Sometimes the exact date and place of birth. In addition, there may also be a picture of your ancestor.

People who obtained passports were people who (1) intended to travel to a specific area that required a passport, (2) may have desired formal identification, or (3) a naturalized citizen who needed to prove citizenship to avoid being drafted for a war. Vital Records
Birth, marriage, and death records. Thousand of counties and towns through out the United States have had their vital records microfilmed by the Utah Genealogical Society and are located at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. This source of information should never be overlooked.

US Naturalizations
Naturalization documents are searched for by family historians for their informational value as well as sentimental value. Unfortunately, they are probably the hardest of all genealogical documents to locate. Sometimes these records cannot be found simply due to the fact that the immigrant may never have become naturalized.
