Ordering is Secure on History of Family Search.
The History of Family site encrypts your
information when transfering it from your
computer to ours using the Secure Sockets
Layer protocol (SSL) with a Thawt Secure
Certificate encryption key. Therefore any
information that you send, names, addresses,
credit card, etc. cannot be intercepted by
a third party.
Once we have your information, it resides
on a secure server that is behind a firewall
and can only be accessed by us. We believe
that your information is private and confidential
and will not make it available to anyone.
Why don't I see the "lock" on my
browser when I am ordering?
This site uses frames. When only one frame
is encrypted (specifically the ordering forms)
and the other frames are not (e.g. the menu
on the left) some browsers will not show
the LOCK in the locked position. To verify
that the page you are viewing is encrypted:
In Netscape:
When viewing the selected order form, right
click in the order form frame, and select
"View Frame Info". The information
should display that the page is encrypted
and display the certificate information.
In Internet Explorer:
When viewing the selected order form (e.g.
Census Order Form), right click in the order
form frame, and select "Properties."
The connection information should state SSL
and the encryption level of your browser.
The certificate button is located in the
bottom right of the properties page and will
display the Thawte certificate information.
